Does anyone know the quotation or saying near the base of the bronze Buddha? When I visited San Francisco 2 years ago I was struck by its power, but forgot to write it down. Now all I can find is:
“This bronze Buddha was cast in 1790 in Tajima, Japan … Sitting under a bo tree in concentrated meditation, he attained his great enlightenment and understanding of the causes of human suffering. He become known as Buddha, The Enlightened One.”
as quoted on:

but my vague memory was of something else, something much more powerful, that made me stop, hard.
Thanks.

Now that I think about it, I have been there a number of times and have seen offerings left at the statue of Buddha. Maybe someone left the quotation there and it eventually got swept up or removed?
