Visitors and locals alike know that there are no limits to the adventure that food can bring to a trip to San Francisco. One could eat out here every day of the year and still not taste everything this city has to offer. Dishes from around the world, many of them using local produce and products, range from the downright cheap to the gloriously rich and expensive. Tasty appetizers, fragrant main courses, and luscious desserts satisfy the soul as well as the tummy.

As regular readers of this site will already know, my favorite restaurant in San Francisco is The Slanted Door. I’ve written about it twice, and will probably find more reasons in the future to gush over something I will eat there.

I have no idea what the food is like, but when I was a journalism student at San Francisco State, a some of us would go over to the Cliff House for drinks after classes, or editing copy. They let us take a table by the window overlooking the water. We’d watch the pelicans skim just above the incoming swells, which splashed up on the rocks, and upon a colony of sea lions. The water rendered the the sea lions camellion-like, their colors changing through shades of black, purple and brown.

This is my favorite restaurant in San Francisco.

Drinking and the seascape/view are the best things about Cliff House. It’s difficult to find good food at the beach!
