SF Travelbloggers Meet For Lunch

By

No, I’m not going to bore you with yet another review of The Slanted Door. I would like to, because I got to taste a number of new dishes, but I won’t.

Today for lunch was the first organized meeting of the San Francisco Travelbloggers, a group of travel writers who use the blog platform as their mode of publishing. The lunch was sponsored by UpTake.com, TravelMuse.com and Nancy D. Brown of WhatATrip.com. We are by far not the only travel bloggers in San Francisco, but as far as we know we’re the first group of us to get together.

What was on the discussion table besides introductions and food? The differences between writing for print and online. Corporate expectations of their bloggers. Site Editors expectations of writers. The differences between working at home and working in an office. Working from home and writing in a vacuum. What do we do to break out during the day (like walking the dog). How often do we actually get to travel. Where are we going next.

If you are a local travel blogger living in the Bay Area, but blogging about travel anywhere, are feeling neglected by the print community, and are interested in joining this loosely formed group drop a line … hmm, I don’t know where … I’ll get back to you on that.

I’ll just call you speedy Gonzales. I haven’t even written about the meetup and your blog is posted. Dang you are good!

By the way, I was also a co-sponsor of the meetup. Folks can go to http://www.nancydbrown.com and drop me a line via my website. I’ll make sure to add them to the list for our November meetup.

A post with a picture and everything :)

Woopsy, that little tidbit slipped! Sorry about that – I just made the correction. You were a great co-host and organizer of the event! (Nancy even had to spend some time over email coaxing me away from my computer and pjs to get me there :)

Write to Nancy if you want to join us for the next meeting.

I suggest you try to contact Esme Vos, a very interesting Travel Blogger among others who divides her time between SFO and Amsterdam…and loves to write about travel…Am not sure she has time for it.

Quote of the Moment

What fetched me instantly (and thousands of other newcomers with me) was the subtle but unmistakable sense of escape from the United States.
