Sunny Side color spitbite, aquatint, sugarlift on Akatosashi paper, 19 x 36 inches
Chandler Fine Art is presenting a solo exhibition of new work by Kumi Korf.
In this recent body of work she continues her experimentation with the intaglio process. Using spitbite, aquatint and sugarlift processes to make images on copper plates and then printing these plates on a thin Akatosashi paper Ms. Korf creates ’squares’ of unrelated abstractions. These abstractions are linked together to form panels of shapes and colors.
Unlike the repetitive images of the Pop generation, Korf’s multiple images stand alone as separate pieces of her thought process; each a contemplative element in a matrix of veiled memories.
Ms. Korf was born in Tokyo, Japan. She earned her undergraduate degree in architecture from Tokyo University and her graduate degree in printmaking from Cornell University. She lives with her husband in Ithaca, New York.
