Many of the listed galleries in the Downtown section participate in the San Francisco tradition of First Thursdays, when the they hold their openings on the same evening, keeping their spaces open from 5:30 - 7:30 PM. Not all of the galleries participate in this event, and not all participate every month, but enough do to make it a fun and entertaining way to spend the first Thursday of the month in San Francisco. Join the culture club where you can meet up with friends, see some art and swill some wine. The galleries at 49 Geary alone are worth the trek. Take the elevator to the 5th floor and walk down, stopping on each floor.
