The Asian Art Museum is one of the largest museums in the West devoted exclusively to Asian art. Origianlly opened in 1966 as a result of a gift to the city by industrialist Avery Brundage, the museum’s beautiful collection spans 6,000 years of Asian art history.
The new, expanded facility sits next to the new library at San Francisco’s Civic Center and is now open.
California Palace of the Legion of Honor

The Mexican Museum is a unique art and cultural institution located at Fort Mason Center. Established in 1975, the Museum was the first in the United States to focus on the work of Mexican and Mexican-American artists.

The first museum on the West Coast devoted solely to 20th century art, the San Francisco Museum of Art opened in 1935 and in January of 1995 moved into its current modern home designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta. The collections include 20th century Art and Architecture as well as a large Photography collection. The Museum recently began to develop its Media Department and also has a large Education and Public Programs Department.
