The Asian Art Museum is one of the largest museums in the West devoted exclusively to Asian art. Origianlly opened in 1966 as a result of a gift to the city by industrialist Avery Brundage, the museum’s beautiful collection spans 6,000 years of Asian art history.

The new, expanded facility sits next to the new library at San Francisco’s Civic Center and is now open.


California Palace of the Legion of Honor

The California Palace of the Legion of Honor displays a collection that covers 4,000 years of ancient and European art in an beautiful Beaux-Arts building overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. Also shows rotating exhibits.


Cartoon Art Museum

The Cartoon Art Museum is one of three museums in the United States which is dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of cartoon art in all its forms.

Mexican Museum

The Mexican Museum is a unique art and cultural institution located at Fort Mason Center. Established in 1975, the Museum was the first in the United States to focus on the work of Mexican and Mexican-American artists.

The Museo Italo Americano is the only museum in the United States dedicated to showing work by Italian and Italian-American artists.


Museum of Craft and Folk Art

An exhibition space displaying contemporary craft, 20th-Century folk art and art from traditional cultures from around the world. Exhibitions change approximately every ten weeks.


San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

The first museum on the West Coast devoted solely to 20th century art, the San Francisco Museum of Art opened in 1935 and in January of 1995 moved into its current modern home designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta. The collections include 20th century Art and Architecture as well as a large Photography collection. The Museum recently began to develop its Media Department and also has a large Education and Public Programs Department.


Yerba Buena Center for the Arts

Rotating exhibitions dedicated to the diverse multi-culturalism of the Bay Area. Presentations are by local, national and international artists and performers. Program areas include Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Film/Video and Education.

Groups of 15 or more receive $1.00 off each admission when you schedule your visit in advance. A $25 deposit is required, one adult chaperone requested for every five youth. Call 415.820.3515 for more information.
